The Quarry at La Quinta

It features waterfalls, streams, numerous changes in elevations. Water hazards come into play on at least ten holes. The greens are fast, and the fairways are narrow. The seventy-foot waterfall near hole #10 is thought to be the highest water feature ever created on a golf course. "Golf Digest" rated this as the 11th "Best in State" course from 1995 through 1998, and "GOLF Magazine" ranked it 83rd among the "100 Greatest Courses in the U.S." for 1995. Fabulous bronze works of art are featured though out this course.

Golf course designer, Tom Fazio, came up with a three-level layout that created very distinct playing areas. The quarry wall became a focal point allowing golfers to play off it, along side of it, into it and off it again. This would be dramatically evident on the picturesque 10th hole. The bottom quarry floor level hosted seven holes. Another seven holes rested at the alluvial fan which loomed 80 feet above the quarry. Four holes perched within a mountain cove above. In all, golfers would experience a gradual change in elevation of more than 400 feet when playing the course.
